It’s about hundreds of girls and young women in our community.

It all started when…

Two teenage girls visited a young patient in a psychiatric unit who was selectively mute and struggling with anxiety, trauma, and an eating disorder. What began as a quiet act of friendship grew into something much bigger.  That girl slowly began to open up, to engage and to recover — and her nurses urged the girls to keep coming back.

They saw the profound impact of early, trusted friendship. And they realised how many other girls needed the same.

Sunbeams was born.

And it doesn’t end.

Sunbeams, still run by these two founders, continues to walk alongside girls who are struggling - offering consistent, compassionate relationship-based support when it’s needed most. We’re growing: reaching more schools, supporting more families, and training more mentors from within the community.

As the needs of girls and families shift, we listen and adapt. We are expanding our services, deepening our partnerships, and staying closely connected to the community we serve.

But the demand keeps rising. We now receive more referrals than we can take on, and too many girls are left waiting for the support they need.

Keep the story Going. Join us to ensure every girl gets the support she deserves.
